5/17/2007

University of Toledo's interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs is leaving to become provost of a South Carolina university.

Robert Sheehan, who has been at UT since 2002, will begin as provost at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C., the first week of July. His last day at UT hasn't been decided.

Mr. Sheehan, 55, has served as UT's interim provost since last year, when Alan Goodridge stepped down after the school's merger with the Medical University of Ohio.

Mr. Sheehan was a candidate to be UT's provost on a permanent basis, but Rosemary Haggett, of the National Science Foundation and West Virginia University, was selected and will start July 1.

Mr. Sheehan also has served as UT's senior vice provost for academic affairs and vice provost for strategic planning and student assessment.

He received a salary of $180,000 at the University of Toledo and said he will be paid a base salary of $175,000 with a supplement of $15,000 at Coastal Carolina University.

He worked for the Ohio Board of Regents from 1998 to 2002 and held teaching and administrative positions at Cleveland State University from 1984 to 2002.
