Free Owens program aids new college families

6/8/2007

Families of college students whose parents did not attend college can learn ways to help prepare for higher education through a free program at Owens Community College.

The program, Parent College 101: Success Strategies for First Generation College Families, starts Monday in the enrollment services office in College Hall on the Perrysburg Township campus.

The two-hour classes will be offered at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. No classes will be held in January, August, or on holidays.

The program will include informational sessions on topics such as financial aid, how to apply to a school, preparing academically for college, and what student and academic support services are available.

Information to be discussed will not be specific to Owens.

Those interested in attending a class are asked to register in advance with enrollment services, 567-661-7253.
