Lourdes College has been awarded nearly $1 million in separate grants aimed to enhance the college s nursing and theater programs, the college announced yesterday.

The nursing department has received a $950,000 Career Ladder Grant from the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services, Health Resources, and Services Administration that will be distributed over three years.

The money will be used to enhance student enrollment in nursing programs and increase diversity in practicing nurses. It also will help continue initiatives of the college s last Career Ladder Grant that went toward implementing an introductory course to professional nursing, new faculty positions, and the creation of a nursing diversity committee.

The college s Theater Vision program has received a $14,194 grant from the Ohio Arts Council to help fund the educational theater series geared toward school groups and home-school students, but performances also are open to the public.

The Theater Vision program includes 35 to 40 school-day performances by professional theater companies each season. The 23rd season will open with E.B. White s Charlotte s Web on Oct. 16 and 17.
