Ottawa Hills schools seeks 5.5-mill levy

8/8/2007

Voters in the Ottawa Hills Local Schools District will be asked Nov. 6 to approve a 5.5-mill operating levy.

School board members voted yesterday to place the new, continuing levy on the ballot.

Levy funds would be used for general operating expenses, including salaries, utilities, textbooks, instructional materials, software, and other expenses involved in the day-to-day operation of the district, Superintendent Cathleen Heidelberg said.

The amount of revenue that would be generated by the levy during the first year of collection would be $1,031,300.

That amount, based on the current assessed valuation of the school district, would be generated annually and would remain constant throughout the life of the levy. The owner of a home valued at $250,000 would have a tax increase of about $421 a year, according to figures provided by the superintendent.
