University of Findlay gets grant to train science teachers

FINDLAY The University of Findlay has received a $637,500 grant from the Ohio Department of Education that will help 60 college graduates become high school science teachers.

The Ohio Core Support grant will cover the students tuition expenses for the Project BEST (Building Excellent Science Teachers) program, which is an accelerated one-year teacher preparation system designed by the university.

The program is eight courses taken over 12 months, primarily online. Participants also log 90 hours of field experience and complete the appropriate tests to become a fully licensed teacher.

This is the second year the University of Findlay has received the grant for the program.
