Oregon board asks again for 5.9 mills

11/28/2007

The Oregon City Board of Education voted 5-0 yesterday to place a 5.9-mill, continuing operating levy on the March 4 ballot. If approved, it would raise more than $3.5 million a year.

Oregon voters this month turned down a 5.9-mill, continuing levy, 3,611-3,253, according to unofficial results.

The proposed levy is for the same millage. But because the levy will be on the ballot next year when property valuations change, it likely would generate about $230,000 less than the November request would have, said Jeff Ziviski, chairman of the board's finance committee.

The levy still would cost the owner of a $100,000 home an additional $181 a year.
