Michigan schools lauded for healthy practices

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. More than 100 schools statewide, including four from southeast Michigan, were recognized by the state for fostering tobacco-free habits of healthy eating and physical activity, Dr. Kimberlydawn Wisdom, state surgeon general, announced.

The schools applied for the Healthy School Environment Recognition Program by showing what their healthy practices were and submitting at least one success story. The awards were presented during a statewide conference in Traverse City.

Finishing among schools awarded 1st Place of Outstanding Achievement was Patterson Elementary School, Tecumseh.

Finishing among schools awarded 2nd Place School of Excellence were Davis Middle School in Hillsdale Community Schools and Garfield Elementary School in Adrian.

Finishing among schools awarded 3rd Place School of Distinction was Carl Bailey Elementary School in the Hillsdale district.
