Liberty-Benton schools to ask OK for bond issue

4/30/2008

FINDLAY Liberty-Benton schools will be on the Aug. 5 ballot asking voters to approve a $15.7 million bond issue to build an addition to the elementary school and renovate the middle school.

The 7-mill, 28-year bond issue would constitute the local share of a $28 million project that would be funded, in part, by the Ohio School Facilities Commission.

Superintendent Dennis Recker said the project would be part of the agency s fast track program and would allow the district to make the most of the state s help.

If we don t do this now and if I don t give the people the opportunity to do this now, it s going to become a moot issue because the cost is going to get away from them, he said. This is the best opportunity they ll ever get.

Under the proposal, the district would tear down the 1921 portion of the elementary, put on a 50,419-square-foot addition, remodel the 1976 middle school, and install a sprinkler system at the 12-year-old high school.

The project would allow the growing district to get rid of eight portable classrooms at the elementary-middle school complex.
