Toledo Public Schools Foundation recognizes 62 students, 12 educators

The Toledo Public Schools Foundation last night awarded a record number of grants and scholarships during its annual "Salute to Scholars: A Celebration of Learning" event.

A total of $94,150 was given to 12 educators and 62 students at the event in the Terrace Room of the Inverness Club, 4601 Dorr St. This is the eighth round of grants through the foundation, which was established in 1999.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Charles Doneghy, a Libbey High School graduate, was the keynote speaker.

Among the awards given were:

•The Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority Larry Sykes "What's Your Dream?" scholarships for two students who are LMHA residents and TPS graduates.

•The Jason and Jamesena Carthen "Leaders of Tomorrow" scholarships for two African-American seniors at Scott High School, one male and one female, who plan to pursue a degree from Ohio University.
