Tuesday, not Thursday, is 1st day at Toledo Public Schools

Toledo Public Schools is reminding everyone that students go back to school on Tuesday, two days earlier than the originally scheduled first day.

In previous calendars printed by the district, Aug. 28 was noted as the first day of school, but it was changed when the district's calendar committee met after the beginning of last school year to "establish a stronger academic calendar for students," district spokesman Patty Mazur said.

The academic calendar schedules parent-teacher conferences, winter and spring breaks, and teacher in-service days for the 180-day school year.

The school district sent newsletters in the spring telling of the change, and it has been noted in letters to parents sent by individual schools throughout the summer.

TPS Superintendent John Foley recently sent a back-to-school letter to parents that mentioned the first day on Tuesday. It will be a half day for elementary students and a full day for middle and high school students.
