9/16/2008

An informational meeting to discuss a program for women artists in northwest Ohio and Tanzania funded by a $450,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State is set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women on the University of Toledo s main campus, 2801 West Bancroft St.

The goal of the program, Arts Exchanges on International Issues with Tanzania, is to provide the women artists with the opportunity to:

• Develop an exchange network between the two countries to collaborate on artwork and create exhibitions.

• Address person-to-person issues.

• Travel to diverse art agencies and cultural institutions.

• Develop network and strategies to empower young women artists to further their artistic, leadership, and community goals.

Eight young northwest Ohio and 16 Tanzanian women artists will participate, according to the two local agencies involved the Arts Council Lake Erie West and the Great Lakes Consortium for International Training and Development.

Artists, art educators, and art agency representatives interested in participating are welcome at Thursday s meeting.

Space is limited, and reservations must be made in advance by calling the Great Lakes Consortium at 419-530-8572, or by e-mail at glce vents @hot mail.com.
