UT renovates room to aid domestic violence victims

The University of Toledo has helped make renovations that will provide comfort to children of domestic violence.

The newly renovated children's room on the second floor of the Lucas County Domestic Relations Court Center, 429 North Michigan St., will be unveiled during a ceremony at 11 a.m. today.

In two months, UT graduate students Kristi Feher and Megan Bullen collected donations and arranged for new carpeting, paint, and educational activity equipment for the space that is used to interview children whose parents are receiving assistance for domestic violence issues.

UT faculty, staff, and students donated about $2,000 in funds and supplies for the renovation.

"When you see the room, it's quite a remarkable transformation," said Lois Ventura, interim chairman of UT's department of criminal justice. "Hopefully, we've created an extremely positive environment for children who have been in the midst of difficult situations."
