BOWLING GREEN Ridge Elementary teacher Stacia Timmons Higgins got the surprise of her life Wednesday morning when she learned she had won a Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award.

Better yet, she was presented with a check for $25,000 no strings attached.

"This is amazing," an emotional Mrs. Higgins told the students and staff gathered at a morning assembly in the school gym. "This is going to make such a huge difference for my family, and that means a lot."

Ohio State School Superintendent Susan Tave Zelman was on hand to deliver the award along with Jane Foley from the Milken Foundation. Ms. Foley said Mrs. Higgins, who teaches second grade at Ridge, was the only teacher in Ohio receiving the award this year.
