Ohio, 10 others receive grants for college aid

12/18/2008

Ohio is one of 11 states selected by the Lumina Foundation for Education to receive grants to promote cost-saving methods and provide high-quality education to more students.

Ohio and each of the other participating states will receive a one-year grant of $150,000 through the foundation's Making Opportunity Affordable initiative to improve productivity.

The states will be eligible to compete next year for a $2 million Opportunity Grant to implement their plans over four years.

The other states are Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.

The $45.5 million initiative seeks to advance innovation in higher-education finance, management, and instruction to get more students to complete postsecondary education.

Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and Texas were identified for the goal of restructuring state finance systems to reward institutions for graduating students rather than just enrolling them.
