Strickland supports College Goal Sunday

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has declared next month Financial Aid Awareness Month in support of College Goal Sunday.

The proclamation supports efforts to increase awareness of financial aid options for students seeking higher education.

College Goal Sunday is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 8, when families will be offered free help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The form is required for federal aid programs, such as Pell Grants and Perkins or Stafford Loans, as well as some state aid programs.

The local schools hosting the event include Owens Community College, both its Perrysburg Township and Findlay campuses; Bowling Green State University Firelands Campus, Huron, Ohio; Defiance College, Defiance; Terra Community College, Fremont, and Lima Senior High School, Lima, Ohio.

In Michigan, Monroe County Community College in Monroe also will participate.
