2/20/2009

The Ohio Department of Education is looking for organizations to feed hungry children this summer through the 2009 Summer Food Service Program.

Last year, more than 3.2 million free meals were served to Ohio children through the program. The education department is working to grow that number this year. An average of 62,000 children participated in the summer of 2008, when it was offered through 177 sponsors at more than 1,400 sites.

Schools and nonprofit organizations can participate if they operate in areas where 50 percent of the children qualify for the U.S. Department of Agriculture s free and reduced-price school meals. For more information, go to education.ohio.gov or call1-800-808-6325.
