BGSU loses access to Internet, Facebook in unrelated incidents

BOWLING GREEN - Bowling Green State University lost access Wednesday night for more than an hour to the Facebook Web site and to the entire Internet for 15 minutes Wednesday afternoon because of separate and unrelated Internet failures, a university spokesman said Thursday.

The afternoon failure was the result of a denial-of-service attack on the BGSU network from "somewhere in Minnesota," said Dave Kielmeyer. Mr. Kielmeyer said the Internet was down from 3:15 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

A problem in the university's domain name server resulted in the campus losing access to the Facebook social-networking site from about 9:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.
