Each year, Kent's graduating senior woman in news journalism with the highest grade-point average receives the award, which is $1,000 from The Blade.

Ms. Stevens, of Stow, Ohio, received her bachelor's degree in December. She was co-editor-in-chief of Uhuru magazine and was a sports reporter for two years at the Daily Kent Stater. She covered the Akron Racers women's professional softball team as an intern for the Akron Beacon Journal. Last summer, she was a multimedia intern at ESPN The Magazine.

She is a sports statistician at the Beacon Journal and is a graduate student at Kent State, where her focus is sports administration.

The Marge McNab Block Award is named for the late Mrs. Block, a Kent State graduate who was a reporter and director of features and women's news at The Blade. Her husband was Paul Block, Jr., publisher of The Blade from 1942 until his death in 1987.
