Monroe County Community College raises some fees

5/15/2009

MONROE Monroe County Community College has enacted a tuition change that will result in students paying more money to take some classes in the 2009-2010 school year.

The college s Board of Trustees this week approved changing from a credit-hour basis for tuition to charging students based on the number of hours they are in class.

The tuition that the college now charges $67 per credit hour to Monroe County residents, $115 for Michigan residents who live outside the county, and the $128 per credit hour to nonstate students will remain as the basis for the hourly charge students will pay for the classes.

Suzanne Wetzel, director of institutional advancement, said students in the past may have paid the credit-hour fee for selected classes that required additional classroom instruction. Under the new system, they will pay for the full amount of time they are in the classroom.

The new tuition format is projected to provide about $500,000-$600,000 a year in increased revenue, she said.
