9 teachers honored by Diocese of Toledo

    Two high school teachers and seven elementary teachers have been recognized by the Diocese of Toledo for their devotion to Catholic education.

    The Golden Apple Award recipients include:

    •Theresa Betori, a middle school science teacher at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns. She's taught for the Diocese of Toledo since 1994.

    •Paula DeCola, a 25-year teacher of numerous subjects for Defiance Catholic schools now at the St. Mary Campus.


    •Jan Dornick, a first and second grade teacher at St. Charles Elementary, Lima, for 24 years.

    •Sister Rita Mae Johns, a 46-year veteran teacher in Catholic education. She has spent 35 years at St. Joseph, Tiffin teaching math, religion, and science.

    •Ana Modrowski, a Sacred Heart Elementary teacher for more than 22 years with pre-kindergarten, second, and third grade students.

    •Barbara Ott, who for more than 30 years taught in the Sandusky Catholic schools. She is now the dean of students for Sandusky Central Catholic St. Mary campus.

    •Daniel Rose, a middle school teacher at Sacred Heart, Fremont for the past 25 years.

    •Elizabeth Strbik, a 14-year Spanish and Theology teacher at Notre Dame Academy.

    •Mike Wasiniak, a science teacher at St. Paul High School in Norwalk for the last 12 years. He's taught in the Diocese of Toledo for more than 27 years.
