Owens budget OK d; tuition will not rise

6/3/2009

Owens Community College will spend almost $2.4 million less on operations next year than it did this year, but will again not raise tuition.

The trustees Tuesday approved a fiscal year 2010 budget of more than $89 million.

We are spending less with our general fund, and balancing the budget, but our tuition will not be raised, said John Satkowski, Owens executive vice president and chief financial officer. It is the third straight year without a tuition increase.

The trustees also approved name changes for facilities acquired from the Penta Career Center when the latter opened its new campus: Founders Hall for the former Penta administration building that will house Owens humanities and social science programs; Heritage Hall for the former skills center that will house the business, nursing education, and culinary arts programs, and Alumni Mall for the west-side green space.

The trustees also approved an $86,800 contract with Willson Builders for the demolition of the interior walls of Founders Hall.
