Bellevue schools leader to appeal firing attempt

7/24/2009

BELLEVUE, Ohio Suspended Bellevue City Schools Superintendent William Bud Martin has told the school district he plans to appeal his impending termination.

Mr. Martin and Assistant Superintendent Darrell Hykes were suspended without pay last week amid allegations they repeatedly violated the district s policy on sexual harassment and created a hostile workplace.

Neither man attended pre-termination hearings before the Board of Education last week.

District Treasurer Nancy Beier said the school received a letter from Mr. Martin s attorney this week that said he would appeal and asked that a referee be named to hear the matter.

Once the two sides decide on a referee, a hearing must be held within 30 days.

In the meantime, Kim Schu bert, principal at Ridge and Shumaker elementary schools, is acting superintendent.
