A multicounty consortium led by Penta Career Center has won a $663,600 grant from the Ohio Board of Regents to provide Adult Basic and Literacy Education programs in seven northwest Ohio counties.

Penta partnered with Four County Career Center in Archbold, Sylvania City Schools, and the Northwest Community Corrections Center in Bowling Green to apply to provide ABLE programs. They help adults prepare to take high school equivalency exams, improve reading, writing, and math skills, and transition to employment or further education and training.

Penta officials said the grant will allow Penta to expand its ABLE programs at new classroom sites, including Bowling Green State University; UAW Local 14, 5411 Jackman Rd.; the Wood County District Public Library, 251 Main St., Bowling Green; The Source, 1301 Monroe St., and Penta s new satellite location on Osage Drive in Maumee.

It will let Four County expand its ABLE program, allow Sylvania City Schools to offer English for Speakers of Other Languages services, and help the Northwest Community Corrections Center continue its ABLE services.
