Owens OKs 3.5% higher tuition rates

9/9/2009

The Owens Community College Board of Trustees Tuesday unanimously approved raising spring tuition and charging for two additional credit hours.

The Ohio Board of Regents must approve the tuition modification for it to be put in effect.

The 3.5 percent tuition increase will raise the cost per credit hour at Owens by $4.30 from $123 to $127.30.

A full-time, in-state student will pay $3,076 a year, which is $104 more than the previous $2,972 a year.

The board also approved charging for the 13th and 14th credit hours. Before, students could take up to 18 hours while paying the base fee for 12 credits. That base will now be 14 credits.

Charging for those two additional credits and the tuition increase together will generate about $1.2 million for the college for the current fiscal year.
