Bedford's temporary school chief permanent

10/29/2009

The interim superintendent of Bedford Public Schools has been selected as the district's new leader permanently.

Ted Magrum was unanimously chosen superintendent by the seven-member school board on Tuesday.

He had been the district's assistant superintendent of finance and operations and continued to perform those duties as interim superintendent.

He has been an employee with Bedford schools for more than eight years.

Mr. Magrum was among three finalists asked to return for a second round of interviews for the superintendent position.

Louis Giannunzio, retired superintendent of Marshall Public Schools, near Battle Creek, Mich., and Linda Olson, director of instruction and personnel for Van Buren Public Schools in Wayne County, Michigan, were the other top candidates.

Fifteen people had submitted resumes for the job.

The school board worked with the Michigan Association of School Boards to find a replacement for Jon White, who retired in June.

The board had set a goal of having a permanent superintendent by early December.
