Ottawa Hills superintendent to retire in March

1/16/2010

Ottawa Hills Superintendent of Schools Cathleen Heidelberg plans to retire in March, but has offered to stay on in an interim capacity through summer, the district announced Friday.

Ms. Heidelberg has notified the district of her retirement effective March 31, after which she would become eligible to begin collecting her pension through the Ohio Public Employees' Retirement System. Her education career stretches nearly 40 years.

According to the district statement, the school board tentatively has accepted her offer. She would assist in the recruitment of her successor and of new teachers for the 2010-11 school year, the development of the district's budget for the next school year, and preparations for a November levy campaign.

The board intends to have a new superintendent in office by Aug. 1, the statement said.
