ARCHBOLD, Ohio - Northwest State Community College is getting its first new building on campus in more than a decade.

The new Nursing, Allied Health & Public Services Building is to be a 20,000-square-foot facility completed by the fall of 2011.

Northwest State President Thomas Stuckey said the facility "will allow us to continue to give our nursing students the cutting-edge training that will prepare them for successful careers."

The $5.5 million project includes the new two-story building to be constructed on the south side of campus as well as renovations to the second floor of the A building that currently houses the nursing program.

The A building, originally constructed in 1972, was the college's original campus building.

Northwest State has received $1.3 million in state capital dollars for the project and has saved $3.5 million in capital dollars for the new building.

A request for the reappropriation of an additional $700,000 in state funding is in process to complete the funding, said Mari Yoder, the college's vice president for institutional advancement.

Poggemeyer Design Group in Bowling Green is to design the new building.

The last new building at Northwest State was the Engineering Technology and Science Center in 1997, which had a Plastics Building lab addition in 2001.
