Woodmore to try for levy

2/17/2010

WOODVILLE — The Woodmore Board of Education voted unanimously last night to place a five-year emergency levy on the May primary election ballot.

The move aims to raise $450,000 a year, which the Sandusky County auditor calculated would require a 2.99-mill levy.

The owner of a $100,000 home would pay $91.57 a year if the levy succeeds, district Treasurer Kevin Slates said.

The levy would take the place of an expiring 4-mill levy, which raised $550,000 a year. In part because the new tax would be an “emergency levy,” it would trigger additional money from the state, Mr. Slates said. “The bottom line is we won't be losing any money,” he said. “We'll lower the [tax] burden on the community.”
