University of Findlay names next president

FINDLAY — A college administrator from Shreveport, La., yesterday was named the 17th president of the University of Findlay.

On July 1, Katherine Rowe Fell, vice president for advancement at Centenary College, is to succeed DeBow Freed, who at 84 plans to retire at the end of the school year. Mr. Freed has been president since 2003, when he was named interim president when President Kenneth Zirkle took a one-year sabbatical and then resigned.

A native of Stamps, Ark., Ms. Fell joined the faculty of Centenary College in 1986 in the English department. Since 2004, she has been vice president for advancement, launching a fund-raising campaign that has raised gifts and pledges of $40 million.
