Fostoria to shut 1 school, move grades 7 and 8

6/12/2010

FOSTORIA — Fostoria city schools will close an elementary school and move seventh and eighth graders to the high school, according to Steve Pritts, who is in his first month as superintendent.

Field Elementary, which opened in 1908, will close as part of a realignment plan that reflects the district's declining enrollment.

Beginning this fall, children in grades 7-12 will attend the high school, and students in grades 3-6 will report to the middle school, while first and second graders will be at Riley Elementary and kindergarten and prekindergarteners will attend Longfellow Elementary.

Mr. Pritts, former superintendent of Elmwood Local Schools, said no staff positions would be cut, although closing Field should save about $250,000 a year in utilities and maintenance.
