UT trustees reject fact finder's report

The University of Toledo Board of Trustees Friday unanimously rejected a fact finder's report that would give nurses, maintenance workers, and clerical workers at the Health Sciences Campus a 5 percent raise over three years.

University officials faulted the report for vagueness.

"We had hopes that this process would bring us one step closer to bringing these lengthy negotiations to a close," UT President Dr. Lloyd Jacobs said in a news release.

"Unfortunately, we are left with a report that lacks clarity and fails to provide a blueprint to reconcile our differences. We sincerely look forward to continuing the dialogue as we continue to bargain in good faith."

UT's contract with the employees' bargaining unit, AFSCME Local 2415, expires Sept. 30. Tom Kosek, president of the local, said his membership will vote on the report Monday.

"It will be a vote of solidarity," Mr. Kosek said. "This rejection is a sign that [the UT administration] needs to get back to the bargaining table."
