Those cuts would most likely be implemented in the spring but immediate changes would be to eliminate all field trips for kindergarten through 12th grade students, cut out all high school transportation, consolidate bus stops, and close all elementary school buildings a half hour after dismissal time, officials said.

Taxpayers in the Springfield Local School District will be asked on Nov. 2 to vote for a 3.9-mill operating levy. It is anticipated the levy, if approved, would generate $2.8 million a year, and would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $119 a year.

In May, district residents defeated a 3.9-mill, five-year operating levy.

These cuts would be the fourth round of cuts in recent months. Before the start of the 2009-2010 school year, the board trimmed $600,000 from its operating budget, and in February approved $1.6 million in cuts for this current school year.

After a May levy defeat, the board slashed an additional $1.5 million from the 2010-11 budget, in part through teacher layoffs.
