TPS hires Wilkowski as counsel
9/29/2010The Toledo Board of Education on Tuesday night hired attorney and former mayoral candidate Keith Wilkowski as its general counsel.
Mr. Wilkowski, 54, a partner at Marshall & Melhorn LLC, said he will charge the district a rate of $200 an hour, a 20 percent discount from his normal hourly rate of $250.
“For me, this is a wonderful opportunity to work with an important public institution, solving tough problems with creative ideas,” he said. He said he would not bill for time spent at board meetings.
The vote to hire Mr. Wilkowski was 3-2, with members Larry Sykes and Brenda Hill voting no. Mr. Sykes accused board president Bob Vasquez of cronyism for not soliciting offers from other law firms.
Mr. Wilkowski served on the school board from 1984 to 1988.
