TEMPERANCE — Bedford Public Schools teachers picketed outside schools in the district Monday morning to express their displeasure over proposed reductions in funding for public schools in Michigan.

Representatives of the Bedford Education Association also wanted to encourage supporters to let their legislators know how they feel about school funding. They said their district stands to receive a cut of $470 per student in the governor’s proposed budget, which would put school funding back to 2005-06 levels.

In their last two contracts, Bedford teachers agreed to concessions in health insurance and wage freezes.

Teachers passed out literature to parents dropping off their children and were advised by the union not to obstruct traffic and to be in their classrooms on time.
