FOSTORIA — Twenty-eight teaching positions are among 38 jobs the Fostoria City Schools board has agreed to cut because of a looming $1.6 million deficit.

In addition to the teachers, the board agreed Monday night to eliminate the positions of alternative school administrator, assistant high school principal, hearing officer, administrative coach, assistant treasurer, central office receptionist, and two building secretaries.

Superintendent Steven Pritts said it’s crucial that voters renew a 7.51-mill, five-year operating levy that brings in $1.6 million a year. If the levy on the May 3 ballot fails, he said, the board will be faced with cutting an additional $1.6 million.
