Pike-Delta-York schools to put 3-year, 4.9-mill levy on Aug. 2 ballot

DELTA — The Pike-Delta-York Board of Education Wednesday night passed the second of two resolutions necessary to put a three-year, 4.9-mill property levy on the Aug. 2 special election ballot.

If approved by district voters, the levy would generate $909,937 in annual revenue and cost the owner of a $100,000 home $183.44 in annual tax.

The levy proposal represents the school board’s fifth attempt since 2008 to add to its revenue stream, with the previous four proposals all having failed, including a 1.25-percent earned-income tax that lost by 1,948 to 1,048 on Nov. 2.

Superintendent of Schools Robin Rayfield and school board members said beforeWednesday night’s vote that the latest request is a stopgap measure that they hope will tide the school district in Fulton County over until the economy improves and voters are more willing to pay what is needed to maintain educational programs.
