BOWLING GREEN – With just a brief discussion and no comments from parents, the Bowling Green school board Tuesday approved a two-year plan that calls for permanently closing Milton Elementary when the school year ends this spring.

In a 5-0 vote, the board accepted Superintendent Ann McVey’s proposal to also close Ridge Elementary after the 2011-12 school year and move all sixth graders to the middle school this fall.

The plan ultimately calls for building an addition at Crim Elementary, making it approximately the same size as the two remaining elementaries – Conneaut and Kenwood.

“While it’s been pointed out that this is something that’s been arrived at very quickly because of very sharp reductions in state funding, in terms of the long-term vision for the district, it’s right within that vision that we’ve had,” said board member Thomas Milbrodt.
