Perrysburg teachers approve two-year contract

The Perrysburg Education Association signed a two-year contract with the Board of Education Monday that includes wage freezes.The association agreed to sign the contract after the district’s teachers voted to accept it. The contract includes a base salary freeze for the duration of the contract, which also states there will be no step increases.

Last year, the district eliminated 52 positions and cut $3.1 million from the budget, in the heels of an estimated $1.7 million loss in state revenue in Gov. John Kasich’s current budget proposal.

Under the new contract, the pay freeze will allow the district to balance its budget over the next two years and without any step increases, the district will save $757,866, according to a release from the school district.

Other changes made from the previous contract include the creation of a Professional Development Committee that will evaluate and approve teacher’s professional development requests, and figuring the cost of substitute teachers into the total cost of the professional development budget.

There will also be an internal posting process for open teaching positions.
