UM regents vote to raise tuition
6/16/2011ANN ARBOR — The University of Michigan regents have voted to increase tuition and fees by 6.7 percent for in-state undergraduates and 4.9 percent for out-of-staters.
The regents approved the increases Thursday for the coming academic year as they adopted a new budget Thursday.
The university is getting $47.5 million less in state funding in the coming fiscal year. The state budget includes incentives for universities that don’t raise tuition by more than 7.1 percent.
The university’s overall budget for the coming fiscal year is $6.1 billion.
Last week, Western Michigan University approved a 6.6 percent tuition increase, and Oakland University raised its tuition 7 percent. This week, Saginaw Valley State approved a 6.9 percent increase. Michigan State University is expected to act Friday.
