  • Workers for Klumm Brothers take bites out of Sylvania’s Maplewood Elementary School as demolition of the 82-year-old building gets under way. It is giving way to a new school adjacent to the old site. The job, which began Monday, was estimated to take 12 hours.

The new building is far enough along that Sylvania City Schools officials plan to make opening day in August. Principal Ed Eding has said the new school will seem luxurious, with spacious hallways and classrooms, sinks in every room, geothermal climate control and solar-assisted lighting, and a separate gymnasium and cafeteria.
