Superintendent to leave Rossford

Lang to head Wyoming district in suburban Cincinnati starting Oct. 3

Susan Lang, superintendent of the Rossford Exempted Village School District, has been hired as superintendent of Wyoming City Schools in a northern suburb of Cincinnati.

Ms. Lang, Rossford superintendent since October, 2007, begins her new job Oct. 3 in the city of Wyoming in Hamilton County. She had a contract through 2014 with the Rossford district where she was paid $132,810 annually.

Her pay will be $145,000 a year in her new job, said Mary Killen, spokesman for Wyoming City Schools. The Wyoming board Monday approved unanimously a three-year contract for Ms. Lang, she said. During her tenure with Rossford, the district has advanced to an excellent rating for the past four years, from effective.

"Since Dr. Lang's arrival, she has implemented programs and strategies, has hired great personnel and has taken our district report card from 'Effective' to 'Excellence,' improving student performance each year. She has helped us develop our core values with our vision and mission statements and assisted with beginning our path to changing the look of our facilities, which with the help of the community we will complete. I wish her the best in her commitment to Wyoming City Schools," Ken Sutter, Rossford board president, said in a prepared statement.

The Wyoming and Rossford districts are similar in enrollment size, Ms. Killen said.

Wyoming also has about 2,000 enrolled for the upcoming school year. The district has three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.

The Rossford Board of Education's next regular session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday at Indian Hills Elementary School, and the board probably will go into executive session to discuss the superintendent's post, said Lisa Spotts, administrative assistant to the superintendent/communications liaison.

She said no decisions have been made about a timetable for a search for a new superintendent. The board needs to convene and discuss the matter, she said Tuesday.

Ms. Lang infuriated some Rossford parents in June when she sent a letter telling them that their children were to be shifted from Eagle Point Elementary School to Indian Hills Elementary for the 2011-2012 school year.

Parents challenged the reasoning behind the decision, which school officials said was made to streamline transportation and save money as part of the district's $436,000 in budget reductions for the coming school year.

At the time, Ms. Lang said reassigning the students would save about $25,000 and that about 45 students in 20 families would be affected.

Shortly afterward, school officials held a meeting during which many parents complained about the reassignment, and the Rossford school board overturned the decision.
