Bill McFarland, 58, of Perrysburg Township Monday night was named interim superintendent of Rossford Exempted Village Schools.

Rossford school board members voted 4-0 to hire Mr. McFarland, who will begin his duties Sept. 6. Board member Diane McKinney was absent from the meeting.

He replaces Susan Lang who has been hired as superintendent of Wyoming City Schools in a northern suburb of Cincinnati. Ms. Lang, Rossford superintendent since October, 2007, begins her new job Oct. 3 in the city of Wyoming in Hamilton County. She had a contract through 2014 with the Rossford district where she was paid $132,810 annually. Her last day with Rossford will be Sept. 19.

Mr. McFarland, former superintendent of Eastwood Local Schools, will be paid $400 a day, or roughly $100,000 for the school year, said board president Ken Sutter. The contract is flexible, and the interim job could end if the district hires a new full-time superintendent during the 2011-12 school year, Mr. Sutter said.

Superintendent of Eastwood from 1998 to 2006, Mr. McFarland was interim principal at McComb High School from 2006 to 2010. Eastwood has about 2,000 students, slightly more than the 1,850 students at Rossford.
