YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University's board has voted to ban medical marijuana on campus.

AnnArbor.com and the Detroit Free Press report Tuesday's vote puts the Ypsilanti school's policies generally in line with several other schools including the University of Michigan and Michigan State University.

Eastern Michigan University says federal law prohibits the drug on campuses and, because it gets federal funding, it must ban its use.

Michigan voters in 2008 approved use of marijuana to relieve pain and other chronic ailments.
