MILLBURY -- Lake Local Schools officials said they will not decide where to cut money until early next year. District officials said cuts are inevitable after a defeated school levy last week.

Wednesday night was the school board’s first meeting since 54 percent of voters rejected a 4.75-mill, five-year operating levy in the Nov. 8 election.

“This one is really tough to take,” school board member Eric Hirzel said during the meeting. “It’s really frustrating.”

Before the election, school officials warned staff layoffs could be a consequence if the levy failed but did not give more details Wednesday.

The failed tax, which was expected to generate $1.1 million a year, would have cost the homeowner of a $100,000 house about $145 annually.
