BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green school board Friday approved a nearly $4.3 million bid to expand and renovate Crim Elementary school.

The district plans to add about 23,000 square feet to Crim, including nine classrooms, a cafeteria, art room, and offices. The plan also calls for installing a roof on the existing building, expanding the parking lot, and relocating the playground. Midwest Contracting of Holland was awarded the general contract.

The board is using revenue from its permanent improvement fund to pay for the project, which was planned in conjunction with the closing of two of the district’s five elementaries. Milton Elementary closed at the end of the 2010-11 school year, and Ridge Elementary is to close at the end of the 2012-13 school year.
