Perrysburg Schools’ preschool program will relocate from Lutheran Church of the Master to a former Maumee elementary building under an agreement being worked out between the school districts.

Maumee Schools will lease five classrooms in Union Elementary School to Perrysburg Schools, saving the Wood County school district $22,246 annually, according to information posted on Perrysburg Schools’ Web site.

Also, Maumee plans to move two preschool classes into the building, saving the district about $6,000 a year. Union School closed at the end of the 2011 school year.

“This is a great opportunity for us to partner with Maumee and take advantage of some cost savings we will realize from sharing common areas. This agreement will also allow us to have dedicated classroom space and the ability to grow in the future,” Perrysburg Superintendent Thomas Hosler said.

Maumee Superintendent Greg Smith said the agreement was reached following regular meetings between the school districts.

“We plan to take a regional approach to making sure we are operating as efficiently as possible and working diligently to be the best possible stewards of taxpayer dollars,” he said.

The preschool classes are provided by the Wood and Lucas County Educational Service Centers.

Perrysburg Schools said the shared arrangement will ensure classrooms remain in a location convenient to the families of preschool-age children in both communities. The school district has used the church for preschool classes since 2010.
