Rick Waggoner is being honored as an outstanding teacher because of his dedication and commitment to his students in the floral design-greenhouse production program at Penta Career Center.

He creates an excellent educational environment for his students through his vast knowledge of the horticulture and floral industry.

Mr. Waggoner is respected by his students and staff at Penta as well as by industry professionals.

Mr. Waggoner was recognized as 2011 Penta Teacher of the Year and received the 1979 Award of Achievement from the Ohio Department of Education.

Since 1988, he has led 17 Penta teams of students to earn top awards at the Ohio floriculture contests through FFA.

"Mr. Waggoner creates an excellent learning environment for the students in the floral design-greenhouse production program," said Jim Henline, supervisor of agriculture, transportation and satellite programs at Penta Career Center.

"He has a unique ability to inspire students to make good decisions in order to achieve success in school and in life."

Mr. Waggoner has an associate's degree in greenhouse production, a bachelor's degree in agriculture education-horticulture from the Ohio State University agricultural technical institute, and a master's degree in agriculture education from Ohio State University.
