BOWLING GREEN — In step with the University of Toledo, trustees at Bowling Green State University this morning approved a 3.5 percent hike in tuition and general fees for undergraduates next fall.

The hike will increase the total cost of in-state, undergraduate tuition and fees from $5,014 per semester to $5,188. Graduate student tuition will not increase although general fees for graduate students will rise by 3.5 percent.

On Monday, UT’s board of trustees increased tuition by 3.5 percent, which is the cap placed on tuition hikes at public colleges and universities in the state budget.

At BGSU, officials cited an expected decrease in state funding of $2.8 million next year in recommending the tuition increase. State funding is projected to decrease from $70 million this year to $67.2 million for next year.
