A retired educational technology teacher for Oregon City Schools was chosen Wednesday night to fill a vacancy on the board of education.

The board voted 4-0 to have Mike Csehi, 60, of Jerusalem Township replace Richard Gabel, who resigned June 7 because of health problems.

Mr. Csehi, who retired in 2011 after 35 years with the school system, was among 11 people who asked to be considered for the opening.

The board interviewed Mr. Csehi and three others in executive session during the special meeting.

Board president Diana Gadus and fellow board member P.J. Kapfhammer said they were impressed by the passion for the school and education that Mr. Csehi showed during his interview.

"It was easy to see how much he cared," Mr. Kapfhammer said.

Mr. Csehi, who is the technology director at Cardinal Stritch High School, said he sought the vacancy because he believes he can help get the school district going in the right direction.

"I am excited to be part of the team of the Oregon board of education," Mr. Csehi said.

"I look forward to working with this great group of people. They showed very good teamwork in the interview process," he said.
