TEMPERANCE — The Bedford Board of Education has appointed a new member.

Jessica C. Pienta of Lambertville was selected from among five candidates to replace Kim Hooper, who resigned because he is moving out of the district. Mr. Hooper's unfinished term runs through Dec. 31. The board interviewed the candidates at a special meeting on Thursday.

Ms. Pienta is a lawyer with a practice in Lambertville, Pienta PLC, that focuses on corporate, small business, contract, and real estate law. She has represented school districts as well.

"We had some excellent candidates that made it a difficult decision," board president Michael Smith said. "Jessica was at the top of everyone's list, and after a short debate, she was unanimously appointed by the board."

Ms. Pienta is a Bedford High School graduate, class of 2000, and a 2004 graduate of the University of Michigan. She received her law degree from the University of Toledo in 2007.

She and her husband, Nathan, have two young children. Her memberships include Bedford Alliance Church, the Bedford Business Association, and the Francis Family YMCA board of managers.

"I received a wonderful education at Bedford. It served me well. It launched me into higher education and a satisfying career. I want the same for my children and the rest of the community. I look forward to serving on the board," she said.
